Model House of Commons
In coordination with the Politics society & Debating union at UEA, Model UN hosted the first Model House of Commons, and had an active presence of Conservative Future, Liberal Democrats, and Labour Students' societies. The idea was introduced by former President, George Appleyard, and was organised by Presidents of the three societies. See other Events >
First Delegation to WorldMUN
The team managed to accomplish its primary aim this year in going to one of the most recognizable conferences in the World. Sikander Bizenjo and Michal Wichowski headed the project. The society receive significant funding for this delegation. The delegation was one of a kind, made up of vastly different backgrounds, with delegates going on to take leading roles in Politics society, Economics society, Debating union, and this societies Fifth committee. The Workshop Series
The committee launched its workshop series, to build on the traditional 101 crash course provided at the beginning of the year during regular meetings. Vice President, Emilie Bragginton lead the organisation of these meetings. New delegates reported having gained significant confidence through these excersizes, and one attendee, Amanie Mathurin, managed to recieve a best position paper award in LiMUN, despite it being her first conference. Inaugural Position Paper Competition
Having run two workshops on position papers, to Presidents (Michal and Emilie) decided to run a competition in writing an exemplary position paper. The position paper is a particularly tricky essay that is required for Model UN delegates, and is a test of a wide variety of marketable skills. Go to Competition Page >

Branding
The society introduced its new logo, its first unique posters, and developed three series of flyers. The majority of this website was also developed under this committee. In addition to promotional material, the society also introduced its permanent placards designed by the society.
Delegation Info Sessions
Head delegates of conferences for the first time held information sessions for prospective delegates for all four conferences this year, in addition to the traditional info handouts. The meetings helped promote our delegations, but also helped better communicated finances, and logistics of the trip, as well as clearly explain what is expected of new and experienced delegates alike.

Greek Financial Crisis

Autumn Semester - Week 8
The Economics society and Model UN co-hosted a debate together in Semester I. The meeting had exceptionally high turnout out of around 30 people, and 3 Economics society members who attended this meeting ended up joining our delegations! The scenario was written by the Michal, who is a veteran of economics committees in MUN.
'America is Great Again' Crisis

The social secretaries organised an intense crisis scenario for the last debate of the year, complete with american decorations, pizza & refreshments. Development Plan and Accomplishments

At the beginning of every committee year, the newly elected committee sets out a development plan, made out of three principle aims that a society is to pursue during the year. The fourth committee set out aims to greatly improve the foundations of the society, and the experience it provides to members now. The work of the committee forged the way to a number of successes on each of the aims set out at the beginning of the year, as is listed below:
Aim I: Organise Delegations to WorldMUN and LiMUN
Aim II: Increase Amount of Actively Participating Members
Aim III: Improve Legitemacy of the Society
  • The committee collaborated to organise two large delegations to LiMUN and WorldMUN.
    • The Delegation to LiMUN, headed by Cara Leavey and George Appleyard, saw a delegation of fifteen, many attending their first conference.
    • The first ever delegation to WorldMUN from UEA, headed by Michal Wichowski and Sikander Bizenjo, managed to receive over £1400 in funding for the trip for twelve delegates.
    • In addition to this, we held two more delegations, to BiMUN 2015 and WestMUN 2016. Our members on their own also travelled to PiMUN 2016, and our President chaired two conference is Poland.

  • The membership of the society grew from 50 under the third committee to 95, and the amount of delegates from the society increased from 8 to 25. All delegates of the society actively participated in the society.
  • The first meeting saw over fourty participants, and the Annual General Meeting concluding the year, which saw the most competitive committee election in UEAMUN history, saw a turnout of around thirty.
  • We managed to capture a bigger range of students through events with Economics society, Politics society, Debating society, and by introducing the workshop series for new delegates.

  • The Fourth committee managed to make UEAMUN a brand, with its own logo, design, and website.
  • The committee made great steps to improve transparency and engagement of the committee with society members. The committee also developed its first set of policies, asides from the constitution.
  • The Model United Nations society represented the Political societies of UEA in the Union Subcommittee this year for the first time.
  • Our committee members chaired a number of conferences this year, as well as made strong acquaintances with a number of Model United Nations groups in the UK and abroad.
